Welcome to the Reading Club!

When I was a kid, my local public library had a summer reading program for elementary school kids called the Reading Club. It was my favorite part of the summer.

It was better than going to the beach. It was better than not going to school. It was better than anything else I could think of for myself.

I looked forward to it and stayed in until I was past the socially acceptable age. Then, I took to volunteering. I found myself within the pages of what I read and wanted the same for others. I wanted every child to feel seen and heard and know they were valued.

When I moved to the big city for college, I looked for a big-person book club. It took years, but I finally found one. It was an alternative and banned book club. We talked about how important it was to read the books that “THEY” didn’t want you to.

I thought I found my people.

Then, the club imploded. There was bad blood between the senior members that I wasn’t aware of when I joined. Because I was friends with a few of them outside of book club, I was unceremoniously stripped of my membership. I was invited to rejoin at a later time.

It was a gut punch.

I just wanted that feeling of belonging with others who liked to read.

So, that brings us to the here and now.

This is my reading club. I will be posting what I’m currently reading, what I want to read, and what I gave up on reading. Anything related to what I’m reading, you’ll find it here. I’ll also post links to my YouTube where I review books and bookish things.

This is a ~ SPOILER ZONE ~ so be aware!

Come along for a literary journey into yourself. Read along with me, or don’t and read your own thing- no judgment!
