DNF List
This is my Did Not Finish List for 2024, so far. These are books that I just couldn’t stand to finish reading.
She Drives Me Crazy by Kelly Quindlen
I couldn’t get into this one. It’s YA and a little formulaic.
32%
Take Back Your Time by Christy Wright
This is by a former Ramsey Show personality, and it shows. It’s full of mom-on-the-go toxic positivity and the trope that we all have the same 24 hours in the day.
58%
How to Marry Keanu Reeves in 90 Days by K. M. Jackson
This book was painful to read. It promised a fun romp, but it was badly written and trite.
60%
Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell
Another I just couldn’t get into.
75%
Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery
The main character was too Polyanna-esque for me. She shows the full range of human emotions as a reaction to anything. It was just too much.
13%
The Southern Bookclub’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix
I was so excited to read this one because I loved My Best Friend’s Exorcism and Horrorstor, but this one felt phoned in.
38%
What Color is Your Parachute? by Richard Nelson Bolles
This one didn’t really apply to my situation (I’m 1099 self-employed), so I read the first half and then skimmed the rest.
50%
Writing Great Fiction by James Scott Bell
This one wasn’t a book, per se, but I couldn’t get through it. The presenter was so pretentious and full of it.
48%
Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde
A library audiobook that I returned early. This one wasn’t the fault of the author but of the narrator. It has multiple POVs but it all felt the same and I got confused.
68%
The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown
Badly written - every scene felt like it should have ended a sentence or two earlier. Less can be more!
