Heartstopper Volume 1

So I just read the first volume of Heartstopper Volume 1 by Alice Oseman. This 288-page graphic novel came out in 2018. Set in Great Britain, it follows Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson - two students at an all boys school.

Charlie is an out gay teen in year 10 who has just ended his down-low relationship with a closeted bully. On the start of a new term, he’s seated next to Nick, who is in year 11, and the two bond. Nick watches him in P.E. and realizes that he would be perfect for the rugby team he’s on.

What follows is a lot of yearning and coming to terms with who you are in terms of sexuality. Nick previously had a crush on and kissed a girl, but now he has feelings for Charlie. It’s sweet and earnest. 5/5 stars for this quick read!
